Miguel Angel Reyna-Ramos, 37, of Tulare, Calif., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Eugene Thursday to a count of possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine. According to court documents, Reyna-Ramos was found to be in possession of just under 19 pounds of methamphetamine and over 4 pounds of heroin during a traffic stop on May 18, at mile marker 35 near Central Point. Reyna-Ramos did not have an Oregon driver's license and presented an expired Oregon ID card that the trooper could not authenticate during the traffic stop. Police said Reyna-Ramos was driving a Mercury Mountaineer SUV that did not belong to him. When Reyna-Ramos declined consent to search the car, Oregon State Police used a narcotics detection dog, which found the drugs in the vehicle's luggage area. Sentencing guidelines in the charge indicate a minimum sentence of five years and maximum of 40 years in prison on the charge. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 5 in Eugene. According to Mail Tribune archives, investigators found inside the vehicle Western Union money order receipts, which Rayna-Ramos said had been paid on behalf of a Mexican drug trafficking organization. Reyna-Ramos told federal investigators that he had been paid $200 to $300 to drive cars from the Northwest to his home in Tulare before, and expected to be paid about $1,000 to drive the SUV to Washington. He told agents that the transport was directed by a boss in Mexico, and Reyna-Ramos said he was instructed through a third party to pick up the SUV from a motel parking lot in Ontario, Calif. and drive the SUV to Washington, where it would be dropped off in Tacoma.
