Loggers topple Paisley for division title BUTTE FALLS � Without much fanfare, the Butte Falls volleyball team has put together quite a streak over the past 11 years. With Saturday�s 15-6, 15-9 win over Paisley, the Loggers clinched their ninth division title in that span and eighth undefeated campaign in Skyline A League Southern Division play. Butte Falls (19-5, 12-0 Sky A) has an amazing 94-6 record in its division the past 11 years, with the Loggers finishing second in the two seasons they didn�t win the Southern title. Jessica Dunlap helped get Butte Falls off to an imposing start against Paisley, taking the first serve of the game and running the Loggers� lead up to 9-0. "That was obviously a nice way to start off that game," said Butte Falls coach Mike Harrington, whose team stretched its lead to 14-1 in the first game. The junior finished the night a perfect 15-for-15 serving with a team-high four aces. Dunlap also had a team-high 12 assists. Paisley managed a 4-2 lead in the second game before the Loggers took control and made it 8-all. Jackie Lyon then stepped to the forefront, serving two aces in giving Butte Falls a 12-8 cushion. "That was a big turning point," said Harrington. "Jackie gave us a 12-8 lead and from there we never looked back." Elizabeth McLauchlan led the Loggers with five kills on the night, while Lyon posted a team-high five digs as the senior duo performed well in their final home match. Butte Falls next takes to the court 1 p.m. Nov. 4 at Douglas High in a Skyline A district playoff against the No. 1 team from the Northern Division. Days Creek and Elkton are tied for that honor and will face off Monday to determine the No. 1 seed. Paisley (10-2 Sky A) is the No. 2 seed in the Southern Division. The winner of the matchup between the division champions automatically advances to the state playoffs as the No. 1 seed. The loser of that matchup gets a second chance by playing the winner of the divisional runner-ups also on Nov. 4. Despite the Loggers� amazing work in divisional play the past few years, Butte Falls hasn�t advanced to the state playoffs since the 1996 season. PROSPECT 15-15, NEW HOPE 2-8 � At Grants Pass, senior Addie Stockebrand had five kills and went 8-for-9 from the service line with four aces to lead the Cougars to a Skyline A win. Junior Christina Emmons went 11-for-12 from the service line with two kills for the Cougars. Prospect finished Skyline A play at 8-4. Skyline Conference Playoff ROGUE RIVER 12-15-15, MAZAMA 15-4-8 � At Rogue River, Mazama had difficulty handling tough serving by Rogue River and could not match the Chieftains attack. Rogue River plays at Phoenix 7 p.m. Tuesday with a state playoff berth at stake. Rogue River led most of Game 1, but Mazama finished strong by scoring the final five points of the set. In Game 2, Kristi Frederick served points six through 15. "We were on fire the last two games at the net," Rogue River coach Briana Grieve said. "We executed a lot better. Instead of swinging away, we did more tipping because they were playing way back. We were mixing things up quite a bit." Senior middle Emily Sutherland led the Chiefs� attack with 17 kills and Katie Glasscock added 15. Rogue River�s Kelly Simmons provided 17 digs and nine kills, while Becky Grinde contributed 15 digs and six kills.
