Residents will help decide which of three sculptures will grace Medford's first roundabout at Siskiyou Boulevard and Highland Drive. The three finalists were chosen from about a dozen submissions by the Medford Arts Commission on Jan. 15. Residents may view renderings of the pieces, talk to available artists and vote on their favorite from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Rogue Gallery & Art Center during the Third Friday Art Walk in Medford and from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Central Library in Medford. Votes may also be cast online by visiting www.playmedford.com on the Web. Click on "Round About Art Vote" to view the pieces and submit a comment and vote. The three pieces are a 3- to 4-foot bronze sculpture of two children with dog and ball by Ronny Walker of Monument, Colo.; a 15-foot, contemporary steel sculpture by Jesse Swickard of Wilsonville; and an 8-foot bronze sculpture of a boy and his dog by Ken Muhlestein of Gold Hill. After receiving public comments, the Medford Arts Commission will review the results at its meeting March 5 and make a recommendation to the Medford City Council, which will make the final decision. The commission hopes to have a piece purchased and placed in the roundabout upon completion of the project this summer. The commission has $33,000 to spend on the artwork.
