Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend October 26, 2005 Police find stolen car, but not who stole it Police recovered a car holding stolen property and drugs after its driver led them on a chase through west Medford late Tuesday. The incident began as a routine traffic stop in North Ross Lane when an officer attempted to pull over a newer model green Ford Explorer. The car had been reported stolen earlier, Medford police officer Mark Patterson said. The suspect refused to pull over and led officers on a chase northbound on North Ross Road to Rossanley Drive and then north on Hanley Road. The Explorer was eventually recovered along Highway 99 in Central Point. The driver had fled the vehicle, Patterson said. A search of the car revealed a cache of stolen stereo equipment and a black substance that at first appeared to be heroin. Tests were continuing to determine what type of narcotic it was, Patterson said. A new police dog, Rudy, was called to the scene to search for the suspect. The dog managed to find a strong scent, but it disappeared near the highway, leading police to believe that someone in a car had given the suspect a ride, Patterson said.
