The Karen Lovely Band with Portland drummer Justin Matz, bassist Timmer Blakely and Ashland blues guitarist Leonard Griffie will headline the show at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. "We're awesome together," Lovely says during a telephone interview from her home in Portland. "Justin, Timmer, Leonard and I just played a sold-out show in L.A. at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach. It was a KJAZZ 88.1 FM indie blues showcase. Our band was picked for the show because KJAZZ had named us band of the month, then band of the year." Also look for Tracey Fordice and the 8-Balls, Duke Street, the Robbie DaCosta Blues Band and Doug Warner on the annual festival's bill. The gate opens at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at 188 Beacon Hill Lane. Music starts at 1:30 p.m. and lasts until 8. Tickets cost $25, $20 for ages 21 and younger, and can be purchased online at ashlandblues.org , at Music Coop, 268 E. Main St., and Gypsy Trader, 113 W. First St., Phoenix. Kids 12 and younger get in free, and parking is free. Canopies will be provided at the festival, along with a limited number of chairs. Water misters will be set up to keep patrons cool in the summer heat. Vendors include Chateau Roberts' selection of beer and wine, Wasana's Thai Food and Mama Mia's pizza and gelato. No outside alcohol will be permitted inside the festival. To get there, take Highway 66 from Interstate 5 Exit 14 in Ashland toward Klamath Falls. Turn south on Old Siskiyou Highway and follow it to Steinman Drive. Follow Steinman to Beacon Hill Lane. Singer Lovely shot out of the Pacific Northwest and onto the professional blues scene after placing second in the 2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn. She's a seven-time Muddy Award winner, recognized as Performance of the Year, Best Female Vocalist, Best New Act and Best Regional Act by the Cascade Blues Association. Her second studio album, "Still the Rain," received three Blues Music Award nominations in 2011 for Best Contemporary Blues Female Artist, Best Contemporary Blues Album and Best Song. Lovely is fresh off a tour of the Netherlands, where she played shows in Amsterdam, Brussels and Rotterdam, including a two-day Blues on the River cruise. Her long-anticipated third studio album, "10 Miles of Bad Road," was recorded at Ultratone in Los Angeles — with Grammy Award-winning producer and drummer Tony Braunagel — and is set for release this fall. "I got to work with guitarist Alan Mirikitani and keyboard player Jim Pugh, who were a huge part of 'Still the Rain,' plus bassist Reggie McBride (Stevie Wonder), Tim Wilson on harmonica, bassist Hutch Hutchinson, guitarist Johnny Lee Schell, Joe Sublett on sax and Les Lovitt on trumpet. I couldn't count the number of Grammy winners in the room." The new album holds new, original tracks, with Lovely penning nine of them. Two were co-written with Vyasa Dodson (The Insomniacs), two others were written by Mirikitani and one by Dave Fleschner (Curtis Salgado). "It was just amazing to record with these guys," Lovely says. "Schell, Tony and Hutch were featured on Bonnie Raitt's 'Nick of Time' and 'Luck of the Draw' albums. I've been a big fan of theirs for years, so to be able to record with them was just mind blowing. There's some great tunes on the album." Portland rockin' blues band Tracey Fordice and the 8-Balls will get the show rolling at 1:30 p.m. Look for Tracey Fordice on keys, Randy Yearout on guitars, Johnnie Corrie on drums, Steven Mills on bass and Franklin Spicer on keys. The band won a 2014 Muddy Award for Best New Blues Act, and represented the Ashland Blues Society this year at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Its new album, "Out of the Blues," recorded at Droolin' Dogs Records in Portland, will be available next month. At 3 p.m., Duke Street — slide guitarist and vocalist John Hauschild, sax player Michael Vannice, drummer Kent Clinkinbeard, bassist Joe Cohoon and guitarist Scott Rogers — will play a mix of old-school blues, R&B and soul from the '50s and '60s. The Robbie DaCosta Blues Band will perform from 4:45 to 6 p.m. Core members are guitarist and vocalist DaCosta, drummer Tom Stamper and bassist Jeff Addicott. Singer, songwriter and guitarist Doug Warner will play original songs from his albums "Sailing Away" and "Fading Gracefully" at intervals between acts.
