Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend January 29, 2006 Expect more rain this week Meteorologists are predicting the Rogue Valley will remain safe from flooding despite a rainy weather system moving into the area in the coming days. "We are looking for a fairly decent rain coming (today)," said meteorologist Sven Nelaimischkies of the National Weather Service’s Medford forecast office. "It’s not (looking) like as much rain as the last flooding event." The system could dump as much as half an inch every six hours, but "at times it’ll be a bit heavier," Nelaimischkies said. The snow level is predicted to fall below 3,000 feet during the new storm, he said. With rain falling on the lower snow from previous storms, a good saturating rain could result in some run-off that could flood some small streams. Major rivers such should stay within their banks, Nelaimischkies said. "The snow can soak up a good bit of water before it starts to run off it," he added. Advertisement The Rogue River and Bear Creek are predicted to stay well below flood levels. Snow on Highway 62 Saturday forced the postponement of St. Mary’s girls and boys basketball games in Chiloquin. A make-up date has yet to be set, officials said. Rain could continue through Monday, letting up slightly during the day on Tuesday. Rain could return Tuesday night, however. "On Tuesday night we’ll get another good shot of rain," Nelaimischkies said.
