Roseburg clinches SOC crown ROSEBURG - Eagle Point was no longer in line for a playoff spot, but the Eagles still had some fight left. Roseburg, which clinched the Southern Oregon Conference championship, had to rally in the first game and proceeded to down Eagle Point, 15-12, 15-6 Tuesday. "We played really well in the first game," said coach Lisa Hutchins of Eagle Point (4-9 SOC). "All my hitters were hitting the ball, and the kills were really spread out. We had five girls with four or more kills for the match, so that means we were really moving the ball around. Everyone was keeping the ball in play." Eagle Point was down 11-6 in the first game but put on a surge and took the lead, 12-11. Roseburg collected itself and scored the next three points to win. Roseburg (28-5, 13-1 SOC) was paced by outside hitter Katie Kahn, with seven kills, and middle Shannon Burmeister with six. Kristen Bitter had seven blocks and setter Mary Pat Junkin three of the team's 11 aces. "It would have been a pretty good win if we could have done it," said Hutchins. "Roseburg is a very good team." For Eagle Point, Ashley Curtis had six kills and Jackie Shelton five. ASHLAND 15-15, KLAMATH UNION 5-13 - At Klamath Falls, Ashland moved to 10-3 in the SOC while Klamath Union remained winless at 0-13. The Grizzlies travel to Crater on Thursday in a match that will determine the SOC's No. 2 state playoff berth. SOUTH MEDFORD 15-12-15, GRANTS PASS 8-15-1 - Jennie Brennan had eight blocks and seven kills as host South Medford outlasted Grants Pass for an SOC win. Natasha Wright served points 6-15 in Game 3 to close out the match and move the Panthers to 5-8 in conference play. Amanda Cox had nine kills and 11 digs, while Meagan Shanahan added eight kills and 15 digs.
