McElroy, 69, of Trail, Ore. passed into eternal life Thursday, March 31, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. He was in the comfort of his home in the company of loved ones. Don was born October 27, 1946 to Virgil Troy and Claudia Wyoma McElroy in Little Rock, Ark. Don will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Don worked as a boilermaker and tong operator in the oil industry for many years in southern California. After moving to Oregon in 1972 he owned and operated a backhoe and dozer service. In 1991 he and his loving wife, Robin, co-founded and opened Mac’s Diner in Shady Cove. For the past 40 years he lived in Trail on his beloved ranch and pursued his hobbies of collecting, resurrecting, and restoring classic cars, traveling with his wife on their “picking” journeys to collect memorabilia from yester-year, and enjoying time with his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Robin McElroy; children Robert and his wife, Katrina; Kimberly and Candie; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; his brothers, Vernon, Harlan and his wife Kathy; his sisters, Laurencine, Jeaniece and her husband, Frank Manasco. Don is joining many family members in heaven, his parents “Troy” and Claudia, his brothers Richard, Royce, and Leonard, and his sister Jeanette. In accordance with his wishes a private ceremony will be held for Don at his ranch.
