Business owner vows to resolve complaints By DAVID PRESZLER The owner of a Medford-based business that has been the subject of a Better Business Bureau warning says his company is on the level. Tom Collins, who owns Consumer Publications, admits receiving complaints from customers but says he is working to resolve them and clear up misunderstandings with the Better Business Bureau. The Oregon Department of Justice has received 18 complaints against the firm, though state officials say some of those have been resolved and that Collins has vowed to resolve the others. The company publishes a free newsletter about work-at-home opportunities and also sells pamphlets on issues and opportunities related to working out of the home. Collins says the company operated smoothly for a dozen years until rising costs forced him to switch from first-class mailings to bulk-rate mailings late last year. Since that switch, he says, delays and lost packages have aggravated customers. "It's been so difficult to try and take care of it," he says. He says second orders have been sent when packages were lost and that he hopes to have all the complaints settled by the end of the year. He says he's putting together a letter explaining the situation to the Better Business Bureau. City officials say the company's business license expired June 30. Collins says he never received a renewal notice and that he will resolve that issue as well. Today's Business Index Mail Tribune Copyright The Mail Tribune 1999, Medford, Oregon USA
