Brandon Arthur Roderick, 30, of the 1200 block of Nadia Way in Central Point, pleaded guilty Wednesday to three counts of third-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants and failure to perform the duties of a driver to injured people. In the early-morning hours of June 14, emergency responders arrived to a bloody scene in which six of the seven passengers suffered injuries, including lacerations to the bone and broken bones. Roderick had been driving the passengers down Anderson Butte after a large party when he rolled the vehicle about 100 feet down a steep grade through trees. Two of the passengers were ejected from the vehicle, and one had to be helicoptered out for medical care, according to an affidavit by Medford police. Roderick fled from the crash and forced his way into the car of a passing motorist. He told the motorist he needed to "get out of here," the motorist told police. Police tracked Roderick to the car and took him into custody, the affidavit said. Roderick admitted he had been drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana, said Jackson County Deputy District Attorney Lacie Nelson. Passengers told police Roderick had been driving very fast and erratically before the crash, the affidavit said. At the time, Roderick had been driving illegally with a suspended license, according to an indictment. He had two previous DUII convictions before the crash, Nelson said. Jackson County Circuit Judge Timothy Barnack said it was fortunate no one was killed in the wreck. "You could have killed at least three people and could have spent the rest of your life in prison," Barnack told Roderick in court. The list of injuries to the passengers and Roderick himself included severe lacerations, some down to the bone; damaged ribs; back, neck and shoulder injuries; and a broken wrist and other broken bones, according to the affidavit.
