Harrison Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jan. 27, 2015 at 8:47 PM Posted Jan. 27, 2015 at 8:47 PM »  Social News A most wonderful and gracious LADY, May Harrison, 102 years young, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015 at her Medford home. She was born June 2, 1912 in Muskogee, Okla. to parents Carl S. and Bertha Elizabeth (Haggan) Robins. On March 4, 1949 May married Thomas H. Harrison, Jr. who preceded her in death April 12, 1977. She and Thomas were professional domestics and she loved her chosen career. The families she served in California and the Rogue Valley read like a history book, Charles Lindbergh, Bob Hope, Jack London, Adlai Stevenson-Shriver (related to JFK.) In the Rogue Valley May and Thomas worked for the Tucker family for some time during the late 1940s through the mid 1960s after the 1964 flood that washed away the Rogues Roost on the upper Rogue River. She kept in contact with Phyllis and Nan in their travels throughout the world in the early 1990s. The original Tuckers, Nion Sr. and Phyllis and then Nan Tucker-McEvoy, spent vacations and some holidays in San Francisco. A special time was when she and Tommy were able to visit in San Francisco and go to the Cow Palace. The Tuckers started the San Francisco Chronicle and helped establish the Cow Palace and were a large part of the early San Francisco society. May's Rogue Valley "families" were Nan Tucker McEvoy, Helene Carpenter Ogle, Mrs. Henshaw, Mrs. Thieralf, Mrs. Dunbar Carpenter, Mrs. Lillian Salade, and Ginger Rogers. In 1935 May moved from Oklahoma to California and sometime in the 1940s she moved from California to Jackson County. May lived in a house close to the Rogue River, no town but what is now Lost Creek, and the closest town was Prospect. She was very active in the Medford Senior Center. She received her GED in her 60s. Everyone she knew loved her. May was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; brother, Cal Robins; sisters, Ruth Dunsumer and Laura Schauble. The memorial service for May will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Community of Christ Church, 2320 Siskiyou Blvd. Medford. A catered reception will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Medford Senior Center, 510 E Main St., Medford, Or. 97504. Arrangement by Conger-Morris of Medford. 541-772-7111.
