Cathy Jo (Aker) Lovern Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 27, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Aug. 27, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News Cathy Jo (Aker) Lovern Cathy Jo (Aker) Lovern, 71, passed quietly from life to LIFE August 13, 2015. Cathy was born November 20, 1943 in Pendleton, Ore. to George and Betty Aker along with her twin brother. Sadly, he only survived for 14 hours. At 2 lbs., Cathy’s tiny body miraculously made it through - a feat difficult even with today’s medicine, let alone the WWII era. Her early years were spent growing up in Tiller, Ore. Her father and uncle built the Tiller Store, which still stands along with their family home known as the Porter House. Her best memories growing up were of family outings to the Umpqua Falls and days spent on the river nearby. Later her family moved to Riddle, Ore. Cathy graduated from Riddle High School in 1962. She was active in the band, playing clarinet, and Job’s Daughters. After high school she moved to Portland, Ore. and attended business school. There Cathy began her life-long career with AAA of Oregon. In 1969 she married Walter (Nick) Majure and moved to Medford, Ore. transferring to the local AAA branch. They had their only child, Robin, 9 months later. Her second marriage was to Robert Lovern in 1980 until his death in 2003. At AAA she became a successful insurance agent but was forced to retire early, in her mid 50s, due to major injury disability. However, beyond the pain she still had a love of travel, pinochle, and her beloved beagle, Suzie. In her later years she traveled to Washington DC and took a Mexican cruise with her family. But her favorite place to visit was the Oregon Coast, and she was able to enjoy many trips there. Cathy’s survivors include her daughter, Robin Lynn Brown; son-in-law, Drew Brown; grandchildren, Alex and Camryn Brown; sister, Roxa Bierman; brothers, George (Russ) Aker III, John (Scott) Aker, and Terry Aker; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Christian Church in Medford. Cathy’s ashes will be buried in her family’s ancestral plot in the historic Jacksonville Cemetery, joining relatives of long past, but leaving a loving legacy for generations to come. Her graveside dedication will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2015. She will be greatly missed by those she touched, and forever loved by her family and closest friends.
