The awards went to Pebblestone Cellars for its 2014 viognier, Belle Fiore Winery for its 2012 “Numinos” red Bordeaux blend and to Red Lily Vineyards for its 2013 “Night School” red dessert wine. The competition included 224 wines from 50 wineries. A total of 27 gold medals were awarded, including six “double” gold medals, meaning that all judges unanimously agreed on the award. A total of 87 silver medals were also awarded. The full list of medalists will be released Thursday. The awards were announced during a ceremony and auction held at the Bigham Knoll campus in Jacksonville, one of several events put on this week by the Oregon Wine Experience festival, formerly known as the World of Wine. The events continue through Sunday. The wine competition was judged by Doug Frost, a wine consultant and writer; Michele Anderson, chief operating officer of Activate; Randy Caparoso, wine consultant and journalist; Mary Orlin, staff wine writer for the Bay Area News Group; and Erin James, editor-in-chief of Sip Northwest Magazine.
