Four Cougars capture crowns The Cougars Boxing Club of Southern Oregon fared well in its own Rogue Valley Amateur Boxing Invitational Saturday night before a sellout crowd at the Reston Hotel. The event featured young fighters from Portland, Eugene, Sweet Home and Vacaville, Calif as well as Southern Oregon. Among the capacity crowd was Hall of Fame boxer and ex-middleweight champion Gene Fullmer. The 67-year old former fighter took time to view the fighters and speak with them about his experiences in the sport. Coming away with titles for the Cougars were 14-year old, 130-pounder Clayton Tankersley, 13-year old, Junior Rios (100), 10-year old, Manuel Gonzalez (75) and 15-year old, Manuel Ibarra (112). Clayton was awarded the outstanding trophy for an intermediate fighter, while Gonzalez took home accolades for most outstanding Junior Olympic fighter.
