COLORADO Medford man gets 83-year term in Colorado conservation scam Comment By The Associated Press MailTribune.com By The Associated Press Posted Apr. 7, 2016 at 6:55 PM Updated Apr 7, 2016 at 10:09 PM By The Associated Press Posted Apr. 7, 2016 at 6:55 PM Updated Apr 7, 2016 at 10:09 PM » Social News DENVER — A Colorado judge has sentenced a 61-year-old man to 83 years in prison after he was convicted of pocketing $3.5 million by abusing a state conservation program. The Denver Post reports Alan DeAtley of Medford was sentenced Thursday. Prosecutors say DeAtley manipulated a program that offered tax credits to people who placed conservation easements on land, promising not to develop it. The credits could be bought and sold. DeAtley was accused of inflating the value of tax credits and selling them to unsuspecting buyers. The buyers tried to apply the credits to their taxes, but the state wouldn't honor them. DeAtley was also accused of accused of selling some of the credits to more than one person. He was convicted of forgery, theft, tax evasion and organized crime.
