COLLEGE BASEBALL Beavers continue hot streak, trip Cardinal Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 16, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted May. 16, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News STANFORD, Calif. — KJ Harrison homered and Michael Gretler drove in two during a three-run Oregon State fifth inning to send the 19th-ranked Beavers to a 5-2 win over Stanford Friday. Harrison also singled home a run in the first to help guide the Beavers to their ninth straight victory over the Cardinal. OSU is 8-1-1 in its last 10 games and is undefeated in its last seven, going 6-0-1 over that stretch. Harrison opened the game’s scoring with the aforementioned single, and Caleb Hamilton drove in a run on a single in the second. OSU (34-14-1 overall, 15-9-1 Pac-12 Conference) saw that lead expand to five with three runs in the fifth. Harrison hit the first pitch of the inning over the fence in left-center; it was his 10th home run of the year and third in his last two games. Gretler made it 5-0 when, with the bases loaded, he scorched a single to left, enabling two runs to score. The Cardinal put two on the board in the bottom half of the fifth to pull to within three but was unable to capitalize the rest of the game. Andrew Moore started for the Beavers and worked 5 2/3 innings, scattering eight hits and two runs before giving way to Scotland Church in the sixth. Moore issued an uncharacteristic four walks but also struck out five to get the win and improve to 6-2 on the year. Brett Hanewich started for the Cardinal (22-29, 7-18) and lasted just 4 1/3 innings before giving way to reliever Tyler Thorne with the bases loaded in the fifth. Scotland Church and Luke Heimlich combined for 3 1/3 innings of relief for OSU, and Heimlich picked up his fourth save. Harrison and Christian Donahue’s two hits apiece paced the Beavers. OREGON 8, UTAH 3: At Salt Lake City, Oregon used a six-run, ninth-inning rally to beat Utah in Pac-12 Conference play. Utah (16-31-1, 7-17-1, Pac-12) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with runs in the third and fifth but Oregon (32-22, 12-13 Pac-12) rallied to tie it in the top of the sixth. In the ninth for Oregon, Jakob Goldfarb led off the ninth inning with a single and pinch runner Nick Catalano moved to second on a one-out wild pitch. Mitchell Tolman then lined a 2-2 pitch to left field for a game-tying double scoring Catalano. After a Phil Craig-St. Louis ground out moved Tolman to third, the junior third baseman scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. The Ducks didn’t stop there. Pinch hitter Kyle Kasser lifted a two-run double up the left-field line to give UO a 6-3 lead. He came in to score on an RBI single by Mark Karaviotis, and Catalano drove in another run for an 8-3 lead. Stephen Nogosek (6-1) picked up the win throwing a scoreless eighth inning while fanning two.
