Cole Rohrbough gave up two hits and the Black Tornado blasted three homers for a 13-1 victory in five innings in the opener. Josh Suarez yielded seven hits and Zack James ripped a grand slam in the 10-3 triumph in Game 2. "We haven’t been starting that fast," said North coach Brett Wolfe. "It’s kind of been a 50-50 thing with us. "We got some big hits (today) at the right time." The Tornado (10-1, 5-1 SOC) pushed across six runs in the second inning and four more in the third to take a commanding 10-1 lead in Game 1. Logan Odom and Matt Schmelzer smacked back-to-back homers in the second-inning outburst and Kyle Williamson lifted a two-run shot in the third. Advertisement Abe Eubank was 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs, while Williamson went 3-for-3 with three runs and Suarez was 2-for-4 with two runs. In Game 2, James’ grand slam gave North a lead it wouldn’t relinquish. Suarez, who finished with two hits and three runs, added a two-run blast in the third and James was 2-for-4. Mike Mills provided a solo homer for the Cavemen (4-5, 4-2 SOC) in the sixth. "We just didn’t play well," said Grants Pass coach Stacy Morgan. "We didn’t swing the bat well and they did swing the bat well, and we didn’t make the pitches we needed." Shea Miller had two hits in Game 1 and pitcher Trista Morton improved to 3-0. Mikki Hargrave helped Henley (4-1 Skyline) salvage the split with a bases-loaded single in the eighth inning of Game 2. Allison and Morton had two hits apiece for North Valley (4-5, 3-2 Skyline) in the nightcap. The Pirates (3-4, 2-1 Skyline) took advantage of a two-run error in the fifth inning to help Nicole Engle pick up her first pitching win in Game 1. In Game 2, Shonda George was 2-for-3 with two runs, while Singleton and Akane Arai added two hits and Jaclyn Unruh provided a pair of hits and two RBIs. Taylor Barrett notched the pitching win in the second game. Rogue River fell to 0-4 in conference play. Girls Golf ALL-SOC — At Eagle Point, Ashland’s Stephanie Johns scorched the rest of the field with a 2-over-par 74 on Monday during a Southern Oregon Conference girls golf counter meet at the Eagle Point Golf Course. Johns shot a 35 on the front nine and a 39 on the back to snag a five-stroke victory over teammate Stephanie Graham. North Medford’s Kacie Kinney finished third with a 79. Ashland won the team title with a 369, North Medford was second with a 374 and Roseburg took third with a 404.
