Rosburg’s Bitter finished with a team-high 12 kills and Emily Waldron added 10 more in the Indians’ 25-18, 25-17, 25-14 victory over the Black Tornado. "We played under control and had a very solid match," said Roseburg coach Bruce Myers, who team improved to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the SOC. "We really dominated the net, and this was one of our better serving matches of the season." Bitter also led the Indians with seven blocks. Roseburg setter Lindsy Bartholomew finished with 16 assists and Lynnsee Gonzales added 12. Amanda Otis led the Indians with 15 digs and Natalie Hooper had four service aces. North Medford coach Ron Beick confirmed that Roseburg’s serving and Bitter were pivotal in the match. "In all three games they did a good job of cut serving," said Beick. "And they got a considerable block from Bitter." The Black Tornado’s inexperience showed at times, Beick said. "We struggled a little bit with not knowing how to get over the hurdle of getting the lead," said Beick. "We pulled tight, but after a timeout they responded with some key plays." Senior hitter Stacey Casebier led North with six kills and 14 digs. "We needed to attack their smaller block and (Casebier) did a good job with that," said Beick. "She also probably had her best defensive game." The Black Tornado fell to 3-2 in the SOC. "I wasn’t displeased with our effort," said Beick, "but we’re going to have to play more consistent ball to be competitive against the top two teams in the league." SOUTH MEDFORD 29-25-25, EAGLE POINT 27-15-13 — South Medford picked up its attack in the final two games to post its second SOC victory in five outings. Panther middles Jennifer Mendenhall and Jenny Brennan combined for 17 kills to help South dominate at the net. Senior outside hitter Kaylee Rickert added six kills for the Panthers. South setter Stephanie Anderberg provided 23 assists. Eagle Point (3-2 SOC) was missing two senior starters in Aubrey Harrington and Michelle Canale. Harrington is expected to miss two weeks after an emergency appendectomy performed on Saturday. CRATER 25-25-25, KLAMATH UNION 13-17-20 — At Klamath Falls, Crater compiled 31 digs, led by senior outside hitter Erin Kinney with 10. She also contributed 15 kills. Defensive specialist Brandi Wolper added eight digs while Rochelle Salyer contributed six along with five kills. After a sluggish start, the Comets (7-6, 3-2) were able to pull away, and all 12 members received playing time. ASHLAND 25-23-25-25, GRANTS PASS 14-25-18-16 — At Grants Pass, Josh Rohlfing registered his 100th victory as Ashland’s head coach. The key for the Grizzlies (8-1, 5-0 SOC) was being able to hit over the Caver block. Marla Morin led the Grizzly attack with 11 kills and five solo blocks. Tessa Maurer added seven kills and 10 digs, while Chelsea VanLehn had nine digs. Grants Pass junior middle Erin Glovinsky had 13 kills and seven blocks. Ashley Bellum had a team-high 12 digs for Grants Pass to go with five kills. Katie Tardieu chipped in 10 digs and seven kills.
