Stabbling suspect arrested in Utah A man suspected of stabbing and robbing a Good Samaritan in Ashland earlier this month has been captured in Utah. Tracy Shawn Jones, 24, was arrested just after 1 p.m. Thursday in a Salt Lake City park on a charge of possession of marijuana. Salt Lake City police ran a routine warrants check and found Jones was wanted for the March 5 stabbing and car theft. Jones allegedly stabbed Charles Bernard Friesen, 55, whom he had met the night before. Friesen invited Jones, described as a semi-transient, into his home in the 1300 block of Oregon Street for food and shelter. Friesen was stabbed four times in the back with a paring knife about 1:30 a.m. March 5. Jones then allegedly stole Friesen's 1976 Ford sedan and some of his property, including a TV and VCR. Friesen got help from a downstairs renter. He was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center. Contacted Friday, Friesen said he was in the hospital for three days after the stabbing, and that he's doing fine. "I was happy to hear that he had been apprehended," Friesen said. Jones has ties to the Grants Pass area and has a multistate criminal record. He was awaiting extradition proceedings Friday. Mail Tribune Copyright The Mail Tribune 1999, Medford, Oregon USA
