Briggs, a lawyer connected with the Bullock Mercantile Agency who was arrested on a warrant from Justice of the Peace Glenn O. Taylor's court this morning, charging a statutory offense. The complaint was made by J.A. Kilburn of the Central Point district. Briggs is held in the city jail. W.E. Phipps has been retained as his attorney. An effort is being made to secure his release on bonds. The preliminary hearing will be held tomorrow. Briggs was arrested in a room in a local hotel. MEDFORD CHERRY WINS FRANCIS WILSON EXPOSITION GROUNDS, San Francsisco, July 15 — Francis Wilson, actor of "The Bachelor's Baby" fame, was caught by H.C. Frobach today in the act of abstracting a luscious Medford cherry from the Southern Oregon cherry exhibit. Apologies ensued, in which Mr. Wilson said that he wanted the pit to plant his own cherry orchard in New Rochelle, N.Y. He said he grew cherries himself, but he had never seen such cherries as those from Oregon. As a penalty he was compelled to finish the box. he will be a luncheon guest tomorrow. PACIFIC HIGHWAY ROUTE RELOCATED TO AVOID CROSSINGS County Commissioners Leever and Madden has rescinded their action locating the Pacific highway from Central Point to Tolo on the west side of the Southern Pacific and have accepted the alternation route favored by State Highway Engineer Cantine and Judge Tou Velle, eliminating grade crossings. "I studied the question carefully," said Commissioner Madden last night, "and believing the interests of Jackson County people living north and west of Central Point more important than the interests of tourists I decided upon the route which I thought would best serve them. I was perfectly sincere in that stand, but I came to recognize that the majority of the people of the county were against me. As I am a public servant and consider my paramount duty to carry out the wishes of the public, I decided to abandon my personal preference, and support the route supported by the majority. Mr Leever for the same reason accepted the same view."
