Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jul. 13, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Jul. 13, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News July 13, 1915 YOUNG SUSPECTS UNDER ARREST FOR JONES ROBBERY Alfred Reed and Jess and James Wilson, arrested Saturday afternoon by Deputy Sheriff Wilson as suspects in the burglarizing of Mrs. Lou D. Jones' home on Roosevelt Avenue Friday, have been positively identified by Mrs. Ed G. Brown, Mrs. Claude Miles and Mrs. E.E. Kelly as the trio they saw in the neighborhood shortly before the crime. The Wilsons are brothers, the youngest being only 14 years of age. They will be given a preliminary hearing in the morning. None of the jewelry stolen from the home has been recovered, and the police effort is to make the arrested men tell where the loot is hidden, or prove conclusively that they had no connection with the crime. The youngest of the Wilson brothers admits that they started to eat their lunch on the Claude Miles lawn, but were forced to evacuate by Mrs. Miles moving the lawn sprinkler on them. When Mrs. Miles approached, the older two turned their faces away, the younger doing the talking. Chief Hittson says he is a typical "gay cat," or boy side of crooks. The three men were arrested through Tommy Scanlin, who saw the pair walking down the Pacific highway. Scanlin rushed to this city by auto and with Deputy Wilson again rushed to the scene, arresting the men as they were about to go swimming. The arrested men, according to the police, have told three or four different stories of their movements on the afternoon of the crime. GRIZZLIES VISIT GRIFFIN CREEK The auto bus carried a goodly number of the Grizzly organization to the forks of Griffin creek Sunday afternoon, from which point the members hiked through the sylvan dells of the hill road. On their return they visited two Anjou pear trees on the Scheble place which are 54 years old and which have a record of $226 for one season, with an average of $100 per year for ten years. The trees have a very good crop this season and are in a very thrifty condition. At the Bratney ranch the members were turned loose in five acres of ripe apricots through the courtesy of Mr. Bratney, sampling something less than half a ton of this most delicious fruit.
