Rogues drop two to end season By Mail Tribune Staff Aug 17, 2020 10:30 AM A A The Medford Rogues dropped a couple of wild games on Sunday and Saturday at Harry & David Field to complete their independent collegiate wood-bat season. On Sunday, the Cascade Collegiate League All-Stars held on for a 10-9 victory after Medford scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. The loss gave the Rogues a 22-8 record for the summer. On Saturday, Cascade outslugged the Rogues, 15-13. In the season finale, Caleb Schorr and Jacob Melton hit home runs to highlight the big ninth. Schorr’s was a pinch-hit, three-run shot with no outs that made it 10-6 after Ben Steck reached on a single and Drew Steelhammer was hit by a pitch. Melton’s solo shot to right followed. He returned after missing 23 games with a shoulder injury. Omar Ortiz and Emiliano Alarcon kept the rally going with singles before Jason Dumont scored them with a single to right, making it 10-9. With runners at second and first, Steelhammer struck out swinging to end the season. Steck and Alarcon were each 2-for-3. Cascade’s Aaron Barber was 3-for-4 with two runs and Michael Ball was 2-for-4. In Saturday’s game, the red-hot Steck homered twice and went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs, and Grant Henry was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run. Alarcon, Wyatt Young -- who hit his seventh home run -- Josh Berman and Bennett Thompson each had two hits for Medford. Young and Thompson each scored twice. Cascade’s Michael Ball was 5-for-5 with a home run, double, three RBIs and four runs. Brodie Ponti was 4-for-5, homered twice, and had four RBIs and four runs.
