Man dead after shooting near Wilderville Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 30, 2015 at 12:21 PM Posted May. 30, 2015 at 12:21 PM » Social News A Wilderville-area man was killed Friday night following a shooting that apparently involved two Oregon State Police troopers. According to an OSP release, the troopers responded to a 911 call at 10:27 p.m. from an address in rural Josephine County near Wilderville on the report of a domestic disturbance. When they arrived at the location they made contact with a man later identified as Robert Box, 55. Shortly after making contact, the troopers reported that shots had been fired and the man was down. Box was transported to Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass but was pronounced dead a short time after arrival. A multi-agency investigation has begun into the shooting, coordinated by the Josephine County district attorney. The OSP release did not specify whether the officers shot Box, but said the investigation was being conducted according to Oregon law governing police-involved fatal shootings. Agencies involved include the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, Josephine County District Attorney's Office, the OSP Criminal Investigations Division and the OSP Forensic Services Division are assisting.
