Saul Garcia-Cruz, 26, of the 100 block of North Pacific Highway, is held in the Jackson County Jail on charges of second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, attempted second-degree theft and second-degree criminal mischief. His bail is $50,000, according to jail records. Talent police reported they were first alerted to the attempted burglary at 2:23 a.m. Sunday after responding to a silent alarm at Green Valley Wellness. Officers arrived to find the front glass of the dispensary had been shattered. Officers then saw Garcia-Cruz stealing products from the clinic and depositing them outside through a broken window. Garcia-Cruz fled from the building when he saw police, according to the repot. He dashed across all four lanes of Highway 99 to the other side, with a police officer in pursuit. The officer eventually chased Garcia-Cruz down and took him into custody. Talent police said he had a pair of bolt cutters on him. Talent police were assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Ashland police at the scene. Talent police Chief Mike Moran said in a news release that Garcia-Cruz caused extensive damage to the clinic during his break-in, including the shattered front window and another one inside. Green Valley Wellness chief operating officer Peter Gross said there was a bunch of broken glass to clean up, but that none of the display cases had been smashed and everything appeared to be accounted for. "None of the merchandise was damaged," Gross said, adding the break-in caused about $1,000 worth of damage. "(It) could have been much worse." Gross said he didn't recognize Garcia-Cruz as having been a past patron. The broken windows have been patched up until new glass can be installed, and the dispensary remains open during regular hours.
