November 01. 2014 2:00AM Robert D. Baehr Robert D. Baehr passed away unexpectedly at a Portland hospital October 4, 2014. He was born September 21, 1942 in Seattle, Wash. to Fred and Betty Baehr and was one of six children. He graduated from Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle and from Hartnell Community College in Salinas, Calif. with an A.A. in 1967. Bob was a member of the Monterey County (Calif.) Sheriff's Department for 37 years, advancing to the rank of commander. He was a long-time coordinator of the department's aero and motorcycle squadrons, the regular reserve deputies, and especially the Chaplain Corps. Bob graduated from the Monterey College of Law and was admitted to the California Bar in 1981. He was graduated from the 161st Session of the FBI National Academy in 1990. As a committed parent and citizen, Bob was active in numerous community activities, such as Boy Scouts, AYSO soccer, and the United Way. In 1989 as a member of Salinas' Madonna del Sasso Church choir, Bob participated in a Mass at the Vatican as Pope John Paul II officiated. During Pope John Paul II's visit to California in 1987, Bob helped coordinate security around the Carmel Mission. Upon retirement, Bob and his family moved to Central Point, Ore. He was active with Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church choir and the Knights of Columbus, reaching 4th degree. For several years, he was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), representing a number children in foster care, advocating for them before the Juvenile Court Judge. Bob is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara; his daughters, Lisa and Teresa; his son. John (Tammy); and grandson, Will. He is also survived by three sisters, Sharon Larsen, Cathy (Thomas) Boyce, and Teresa Page; his brothers, Michael (Suzanne) and Thomas; and eight nieces and nephews. Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel is assisting with the funeral arrangements. A funeral Mass will take place at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2014 at Shepherd of the Valley Church.
