Child dies after attempted water rescue By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Jun 18, 2022 10:12 PM A A The Jackson County Sheriff's Office confirmed late Saturday that a 7-year-old who went missing in Little Butte Creek in Eagle Point has died after being pulled from the waters and taken to a local hospital. “We are sad to inform that the incident has led to the death of the child. Our condolences go out to the family. Please respect their privacy in this time of grieving,” a JCSO social media post stated. According to JCSO, the 7-year-old was located by deputies in the water near Butte Creek Mill. The child was transported by Mercy Flights ambulance to the hospital. Emergency dispatchers said that CPR was performed at the scene of the rescue effort. JCSO said in a press release that detectives have been assigned to the case.
