Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend September 20, 2005 Police seek vandals in vehicle break-ins ROGUE RIVER — A total of 20 vehicles parked at a local auto-body shop have been broken into this month, leading police to ask for the public’s assistance in locating the destructive intruders. Vandals used tire irons to smash the windows of nine vehicles over the weekend at Star Auto Body in the 200 block of Gilmore Street. The incident comes on the heels of a Sept. 9 burglary spree in which someone shattered the windows of 11 vehicles parked at the body shop, Rogue River Police Chief Ken Lewis said in a news release. In the most recent incident, intruders unsuccessfully tried to "hot wire" and steal three vehicles, Lewis said, adding that the majority of the damage "appeared to be purely malicious in intent." Investigators believe the crime occurred overnight Friday or Saturday. CrimeStoppers of Southern Oregon is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of suspects involved in the auto-shop burglaries. Anyone with information is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 800-3-DETECT. Callers can remain anonymous. Rogue River police can be reached at 582-4931.
