CRIME Man arrested for stealing keys, truck, fuel from Lithia car lot By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Apr. 24, 2015 @ 2:47 pm Updated Apr 24, 2015 at 2:48 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Apr. 24, 2015 @ 2:47 pm Updated Apr 24, 2015 at 2:48 PM » Social News p bs:newslist StartDate="20121121" EndDate="p bs:datecalc Months="3"" DateSort="1" UseObjects="1" ObjectClass="81" Taxonomywords="2325,665" ExactTaxonomyMatch="1" Image="1" Count="4" --> A Medford man is suspected of swiping a truck, keys and some siphoned fuel from a Lithia car lot. David McDaniel, 37, of the 900 block of Kenyon Street, was arrested Friday morning after allegedly running from police. Jackson County Jail records show he is held on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, three counts of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, first-degree trespass, first-degree criminal mischief and three counts of third-degree theft. His bail is set at $29,000. Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said an officer spotted McDaniel at about 5 a.m. Friday while responding to an unrelated call at the Valli Hai Motel on Court Street in Medford. The officer en route to that call saw the driver of a 2007 red Dodge Ram pickup suspiciously cover his face as he went by the patrol car. The officer turned around to follow the truck, but it had already disappeared. Police then received another call of a man — later identified as McDaniel — running on Boardman Avenue, near the Valli Hai. Police apprehended McDaniel after a short foot chase and a fence hop and arrested him. Investigators suspect McDaniel cut through a gate at Lithia Toyota's used car lot and took three sets of keys, one belonging to the Ram, and drilled into another vehicle to siphon some gas, causing more than $1,000 in damage. Jackson County court records show McDaniel has no previous local criminal history. Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected] . Follow him at www.twitter.com/ryanpfeil .
