Several trails and roads in the Ashland watershed will be closed until Christmas Eve due to tree-thinning operations from the ongoing Ashland Forest Resiliency Stewardship Project. Helicopters will remove thinned trees on 1,200 acres of land in the watershed, Ashland Fire & Rescue Forestry Division Chief Chris Chambers said in a news release. The work is aimed at improving forest health and reducing risk of wildfire in the watershed, which provides drinking water for Ashland.  The trail and road closures, which start today, include Toothpick, Catwalk, Marty's, Lamb Mine and upper Caterpillar. U.S. Forest Service Road 2060 will be closed at the Caterpillar Trail crossing between White Rabbit and Four Corners. Road access to Four Corners at the junction of Forest Service roads 2080 and 600 will also be closed. Upper and lower Eastview Trail on 2080 will be closed until further notice. All trails and roads on the watershed's west side off Granite Street will be open until further notice.  Work is scheduled seven days a week but could be halted day to day depending on the weather. Log trucks will be driving out of the watershed Monday through Friday, traveling down Tolman Creek Road to Siskiyou Boulevard, then around the golf course to Interstate 5, the release said.
