Last August, then-chief executive Barry Soosman said the Medford store would remain open after the founding Copeland Brothers brought the company out of bankruptcy court. Last month, The Sports Authority acquired seven to 13 of Copeland's remaining 20 retail store locations. Chicago-based Hilco Real Estate, which acquired some of the company's lease designation rights, is expected to acquire or remarket Copeland's remaining leases. Hilco Merchant Resources will manage the disposition of unwanted assets. Katie Gross, an assistant manager at Copeland's Rogue Valley Mall location, said the store will operate into the new year. "We are having a going out of business sale, but we're not closing for another month or two," she said. Telephone messages to Copeland Enterprise's San Luis Obispo, Calif., The Sports Authority, and Hilco were not returned on Friday. The Medford store opened in September 2002.
