Light snow and rain showers will show up intermittently in the Rogue Valley for several days, said Jim Reynolds of the National Weather Service Medford Forecast Office. Another inch or two of snow is expected to accumulate in high elevations, he added. While temperatures will remain in the 30s to low 40s around Medford, the skies will clear out by Thursday, Reynolds said. "We’re really winding it down here," Reynolds said. A local snow advisory was lifted early Sunday, and meteorologists could see no other significant weather systems on the way, Reynolds said. Following the weekend’s road closures, Interstate 5 and state highways were clear Sunday, and chain restrictions lifted in many areas. Highway 238 was open after Saturday’s off-and-on closure near Jacksonville Hill. Advertisement Motorists saw snow flurries and spots of ice on I-5’s Siskiyou Summit, but the freeway remained open Sunday, even to vehicles without chains. Sexton Mountain Pass between Hugo and Canyonville sported bare pavement. Drivers traversed packed snow on highways 66 and 140. As snow melted in many areas Sunday, some Rogue Valley residents remained without power. Snow weighing heavily on trees and power lines left 1,350 households in Medford, Central Point, Jacksonville, White City, Gold Hill, Eagle Point, Shady Cove, Trail and Prospect without electricity. Pacific Power reported most customers would have service restored by late Sunday. Power was expected to be restored early today for nearly 5,000 homes in Applegate, Williams, Grants Pass, Merlin, O’Brien, Selma and Cave Junction, according to Pacific Power. The Red Cross opened a shelter at Williams Elementary School Sunday to provide overnight accommodations for residents without heat.
