Oregon State Police responded to the crash at 2:36 a.m., according to an agency report. The truck was traveling northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 66 on the Sexton Mountain grade when a Dodge Caravan traveling south in the northbound lanes crashed head on into the semi. The semi's driver had reportedly tried to avoid hitting it. Police identified the driver of the Caravan as 27-year-old Ashley Whipple of Lacey, Wash. She was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, OSP said. "Once at the hospital, troopers determined the wrong-way driver to be impaired, and she was cited and released for DUII," the report reads. The semi driver was not injured. All I-5 lanes were closed at 2:45 a.m. because of the crash and as a precaution in case there was a hazardous materials leak. Responding crews set up a closure and turnaround at milepost 80 near Glendale for southbound traffic, and at milepost 66 for northbound traffic while Medford Fire-Rescue hazmat crews worked the scene. "We determined there was zero leak. We checked the vehicle and all the gauges and all the tanks and determined the scene was safe," said Medford Fire battalion chief Rick Rohrbough.
