Dunn nets MVP honor for St. Mary’s By Kris Henry Nov 10, 2022 05:54 PM A A Playing on a team with a lot of contributors, St. Mary’s senior middle blocker Kelsey Dunn still was able to shine through as a playmaking force this past volleyball season for the Crusaders. As one of the top kill leaders at the Class 3A level, the 6-foot-3 Dunn rose to the challenge in helping lead St. Mary’s to a second-place showing in the Far West League and first trip to the state tournament in 12 years. For her efforts, Dunn was recently recognized by the conference’s coaches as FWL player of the year as one of two Crusaders to earn first-team acclaim. Dunn finished her season with 385 kills, 41 aces, 78 blocks and an 88% service percentage. Also earning first-team honors for St. Mary’s was senior libero Albie Borovansky, who registered 348 digs, 42 aces and a 95% service rate. Borovansky’s serve-receive rating was 1.92 on 768 attempts. Katie Miller of St. Mary’s was also named FWL coach of the year after her squad finished one game out of first place behind unbeaten Coquille. Cascade Christian junior Molly Griffin was recognized as FWL setter of the year after dishing out 752 assists to go with 172 digs and a 93.6% service percentage. Joining Griffin on the first team were Challenger teammates Poppy Freeman and Madison Todd. Freeman, a sophomore opposite hitter, finished with 343 kills, 186 digs and 51 aces, while junior outside hitter Todd contributed 301 kills, 270 digs and 50 aces. Sutherlin senior Haley Saunders rounded out the top honors by being named FWL defensive player of the year. ALL-FWL VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Kelsey Dunn, Sr., St. Mary’s.
