COLLEGE BASKETBALL Starting point guard Cooke to leave Beavers Loss of freshman leaves OSU with no returning starters CORVALLIS — The Oregon State men's basketball team appears to be losing their last remaining starter from last season. By Eugene Register-Guard MailTribune.com By Eugene Register-Guard Posted Apr. 23, 2014 @ 12:01 am Updated Apr 23, 2014 at 2:30 AM By Eugene Register-Guard Posted Apr. 23, 2014 @ 12:01 am Updated Apr 23, 2014 at 2:30 AM » Social News CORVALLIS — The Oregon State men's basketball team appears to be losing their last remaining starter from last season. According to a report by CBSSports.com college basketball reporter Jon Rothstein on Monday, point guard Hallice Cooke is expected to transfer to another school. Cooke, a 6-foot-3 freshman from New Jersey, averaged 8.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists last season. He started the final 18 games and scored 23 points in the Beavers' season-ending, 96-92 loss to Radford in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational. Cooke's departure would mean OSU would have to rebuild its starting lineup next season and replace the top five scorers of a team that went 16-16 and 8-10 in the Pac-12. The Beavers also lost Roberto Nelson, Angus Brandt and Devon Collier to graduation, and junior Eric Moreland recently announced he'll turn pro. Guard Langston Morris-Walker, a defensive specialist who started 17 games last season, would be the top returning scorer at 4.1 points. Cooke took the starting point guard job from veteran Challe Barton on Jan. 9 in the Beavers' Pac-12 home opener against Stanford and was an instant success, earning regular praise from coach Craig Robinson.
