Medford police Tuesday arrested Phipps on charges of fourth-degree felony assault, fourth-degree assault, harassment, possession of cocaine and interfering with a police report. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where he remained late Tuesday on $21,000 bail. DUII, eluding — Roy Arne Pearson, 43, of the 22600 block of Nadine Circle, Ashland. An Oregon State Police trooper Tuesday arrested Pearson on charges of felony driving under the influence of intoxicants and felony attempting to elude police in a vehicle. He was lodged in jail, where he remained late Tuesday on $14,000 bail. Sexual abuse — Daniel Anthony Deleon, 22, of the 5200 block of Table Rock Road, Eagle Point. Shady Cove police Tuesday arrested Deleon on charges of first-degree sexual abuse, harassment, indecency and carrying a concealed weapon. He was lodged in jail, where he remained late Tuesday on more than $1 million bail. Assault — Ronald Anthony Cooper, 28, of the 200 block of North First Street, Talent. Talent police Tuesday arrested Cooper on charges of harassment and fourth-degree felony assault. He was lodged in jail, where he remained late Tuesday on $8,000 bail. Stalking — Michael Ray Knight, 34, of the 1000 block of Stewart Avenue, Medford. Medford police Tuesday arrested Knight on charges of violating a stalking order. He was lodged in jail, where he remained late Tuesday on $5,000 bail. Bear sighting Ashland police trailed a 60-pound brown bear down Iowa Street Tuesday evening after it entered a home to get at a trash can. This follows reports of a black bear that raided trash cans in Lithia Park last week. Sgt. Malcus Williams, a nine-year APD veteran, said bear sightings have increased this year. Callers reported seeing two bears on Iowa Street, leading Williams to suspect a sow and her cub had come into town for an easy meal. However, only one entered the home. "This bear wasn't aggressive," he said. "The last we saw of him he was hiding in a tree near Iowa and Idaho street." The residents were home during the invasion. They gave the bear a wide berth until it ate its fill and left, Williams said. He said officers periodically cruised by the tree where it hid to make sure people were leaving it alone. "If you don't bother them, they usually head back into the woods," he added.
