LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Letters to the Editor, March 3 MailTribune.com Writer Posted Mar. 3, 2015 @ 12:01 am Posted Mar. 3, 2015 @ 12:01 am » Social News p bs:newslist StartDate="20121121" EndDate="p bs:datecalc Months="3"" DateSort="1" UseObjects="1" ObjectClass="81" Taxonomywords="2325,665" ExactTaxonomyMatch="1" Image="1" Count="4" --> The climate con game Years ago, I was taught how to recognize a confidence game by some of the slipperiest con artists ever to exist. When I read the letter from Ted Gibbs on Feb. 26, I couldn’t decide if he was a victim of the climate change con or a proponent of it, but that doesn’t matter. In every previous case of environmental concern, laws are passed and steps are taken to reduce the pollution involved, but this time they want money (tax) to solve the alleged cause, and that is the giveaway that the whole climate change proposal is indeed a con game. In every con game, the “hook” is the money. In return for a promised outcome, you are asked to pay money up front. What you should be asking is, who gets the money and how will they be required to use it? Are there real guarantees this will work? No. In fact, the con-artists haven’t proved anything. They claim 97 percent of climate experts say climate change is human-caused, but in truth they said it was “likely” human-caused. Since when was “likely” a scientific term? Don’t fall for it. Carl F. Worden, Eagle Point Thanks for water help Thank you to the Medford Water Commission for helping Medford First Christian Church create a water wise landscape on the front piece of the church's property. Over the past three years they financially partnered with us to develop a welcoming and appealing landscape for the wider community. Without their belief in us and amazing guidance this transformation would not have been possible. Thank you Medford Water Commission for making a difference in our community and taking seriously the use of water. We look forward to seeing how the community benefits from this needed change to the church's property. Thank you. Alicia Speidel, Medford What we must do The science and math are clear: 1. We humans must keep global temperatures below an increase of 2 degrees centigrade or risk global devastation. 2. We will exceed the 2 degree limit in less than 20 years if we do not change our ways. 3. Carbon dioxide, methane and other human-induced emissions in the atmosphere promote global warming. 4. If humans have a future on this planet, it will be a future free from these polluting emissions. Future generations beckon us to a cleaner, more caring world. They beckon each of us to join with others who yearn for and are working toward this more humane world. But how do we do it? We can educate ourselves and one another; we can contact our representatives in Salem and insist they vote against fracking and the transport of coal and natural gas across our beloved state. We can tell them to reject the Jordan Cove / Pacific Connector Project. If you care about future generations, please contact your legislators to express both support for the bills and opposition to the Jordan Cove Proposal.
