A few weeks ago, as I arrived up at Lost Creek lake by the dam to go fishing, there was a couple there with their baby walking toward their truck. After laying the baby down inside, they went out on the pier to join a friend, and said to their friend, "Well, we finally got her asleep." I was only a few feet away from them so I said it's not legal to leave that baby in a hot truck. It's over 85 degrees out here, and you can get a big fine and probably turned in to child protective services. The mother said, "They can't do that." I told them, "Just don't turn your back on the parking lot because if the authorities come up to check your license, they will write you up." She stayed on the pier for several minutes before she went to the truck. She didn't come back out while I was still there. I hope they took their baby out of the truck before it got overheated. Ginger Vinson Phoenix Our 'little corporal' I recently overheard an older, distinguished gentleman who, from his L.L. Bean clothing and syntax of speech was probably an Ivy League alumnus, mentioning to his wife that Donald Trump was not "in reality." Donald Trump is a master of manipulation and knows how to push the right buttons of the American common man and woman. His name familiarity from his "Apprentice" TV show and soundbites alone are all he needs to beat a "little old lady" from Arkansas. Today the Germans perceive themselves as a post-fascist state. Germany has initiated universal health care and democratized its economic system, requiring every corporate board to consist of 50 percent wage hour workers. Many Germans perceive the United States as being in its pre-fascist state, awaiting its "little corporal." Among American, younger-generation workers, there is extreme discontent with their low wages, high cost of housing, job security and diminishing opportunity for careers. These disenfranchised younger voters will vote for Donald Trump. Calling Donald Trump a buffoon or idiot is not going to cause him to fade away. The same things were said of the "little corporal" in Germany in the '30s. Mike E. Miles Medford Use the right word Almost every day the media tell us that ISIS or al-Qaida have killed a whole bunch of men, women and children. Isn't it about time that the media start using correct English and tell us that those SOBs have "murdered" a whole bunch of innocent humans? Curt Kline Medford I wept, too I second the motion, Mr. Berkeley ("Weep for the country," July 26). I wept for my country too. I prayed for Miss Bland's soul, too. We are a primitive society who never seems to learn from our mistakes in ethical and decent behaviors toward one another. Linda J. Stotts Rogue River Gas has benefits According to Wikipedia, natural gas is odorless and colorless, but nontoxic and noncorrosive. In addition, "natural gas could be considered the most environmentally friendly fossil fuel because it has the lowest CO2 emissions per unit of energy and because it is suitable for use in high efficiency combined cycle power stations." About 30 percent less emissions than petroleum and 45 percent less than coal. Most people have some type of gas fuel piped into their homes, so I know there's probably hundreds of gas pipelines already in existence. Why has one more pipeline got all of the NIMBYs so riled up? It sounds like the benefits of the use of this fuel may far outweigh the drawbacks, especially for all of you proponents of global warming. Rick Nelson Medford Where is the concern? How sad, as human beings we spend an entire week obsessed with a lion that was shot. During the same week we find out that of the millions of babies killed by Planned Parenthood, many were sold for parts much like a wrecking yard sells car scraps. Where is the concern for  human  life? Where is the radio, television station, congressman, man or woman who gives a damn? Hard to see why God would have any reason to protect a country that not only kills its children but then butchers their tiny bodies. God, have mercy on their souls.
