Jackson County reports 387 new COVID-19 cases By Vickie Aldous Updated: Jan 11, 2022 04:15 PM A A Oregon reports 8,040 new cases, 35 deaths Jackson County reported 387 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, while the state as a whole saw 8,040 cases. The Oregon Health Authority said 35 more people died of COVID-19-related causes, including three Jackson County residents and three Josephine County residents. Josephine County reported 78 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday. The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 has risen in all regions of the state during the past week, according to state hospitalization data. On Tuesday, 83 patients with COVID-19 were in Jackson and Josephine county hospitals. Of those, 17 were in intensive care, with three on ventilators. Local hospitals were 92% full Tuesday. Asante, which runs three of the Rogue Valley’s four hospitals, said Tuesday that 79% of its COVID-19 patients were unvaccinated, 91% of COVID-19 patients in ICU beds were unvaccinated and 100% of its COVID-19 patients on ventilators were unvaccinated. In the past 90 days, 87% of COVID-19-related deaths have been among unvaccinated patients, Asante said. Unvaccinated people make up the majority of COVID-19 patients in local hospitals even though they make up 31.9% of adults in Jackson County and 38.3% of adults in Josephine County. Across Oregon, hospitals were most crowded in the Salem region, which was at 98% capacity Tuesday, and in the Portland region, which was at 97% of capacity.
