ARREST Justice director Shane Hagey's brother also charged with drug crime Comment By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Follow @@RyanPfeil MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Follow @@RyanPfeil Posted Jan. 14, 2016 at 1:26 PM Updated Jan 15, 2016 at 10:24 AM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Follow @@RyanPfeil Posted Jan. 14, 2016 at 1:26 PM Updated Jan 15, 2016 at 10:24 AM » Social News The brother of a Jackson County official arrested for methamphetamine possession last month was arrested Wednesday on the same charge. Jail records showed 45-year-old Jayson Robert Hagey — brother of Jackson County Community Justice Director Shane Hagey, according to Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement officials — was lodged in the Jackson County Jail Wednesday afternoon on a charge of methamphetamine possession and two unrelated failure to appear charges. An Oregon State Police search warrant served Dec. 30 at a home in the 200 block of Dunthorpe Drive says a "sunglasses case with meth paraphernalia" was found by police in an "open drawer in Jason's (sic) room." The Dunthorpe Drive home, listed as Jayson Hagey's address on jail booking logs, is the same address used by Shane Hagey, who has been on paid administrative leave since Dec. 31, stemming from his own arrest for methamphetamine possession and resisting arrest. Oregon State Police and Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement arrested him Dec. 30 at the Medford Center Purple Parrot. Court documents allege that an informant told police Shane Hagey — the director of the county's Community Justice Department — had been buying meth for at least a year before the arrest. OSP and MADGE officers coordinated with the informant and set up a sting in which the informant allegedly sold 1.75 grams of meth to Hagey for $60 at the Purple Parrot. Hagey was cited and released at about 9 p.m. that night. An hour and a half later, officers served a search warrant at the Dunthorpe Drive home, where they seized guns, drugs and two plastic baggies of a crystal substance that tested positive for meth. "When we were serving the warrant, we found stuff leading us to believe that the trace amount of methamphetamine was his brother’s," said Lt. Kevin Walruff of MADGE. Shane Hagey was hired by Jackson County in March 2005 and stepped into the Community Justice director post in December 2006, according to county records. Community Justice oversees parole and probation services, rehabilitation and other services for offenders and operates the Jackson County Transition Center. The Jackson County District Attorney's Office is still reviewing the case. District Attorney Beth Heckert has said the case might be handed off to another prosecuting agency to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
