By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Apr. 20, 2015 at 3:11 PM Updated Apr 21, 2015 at 8:59 AM » RELATED CONTENT • UPDATE: All lanes are back open near Rogue River following semi crash... » Social News ROGUE RIVER — A semi-truck driver distracted by a bee in his truck cab caused the Sunday crash outside Rogue River that backed up traffic for about six hours, according to Oregon State Police. OSP said 59-year-old Carl Templeton was cited for failing to drive in his lane after the crash. No injuries were reported. Templeton was driving from Portland to California, transporting cargo for Western Boxed Meat, when the crash happened near milepost 50 at 1:26 p.m. on the Foothill Road bridge. While Templeton tried to get the bee out of the cab, the truck carrying thousands of pounds of frozen meat went off the highway, struck a guard rail and a bridge rail, then flipped onto its side and came to a rest, blocking the slow lane, OSP reported. Traffic remained at a crawl until 7:30 p.m. when both lanes reopened. At one point, traffic had backed up close to four miles, officials said. There were brief closures of both southbound lanes while crews got the trailer upright, though vehicles were able to pass in the fast lane through most of the afternoon. The exit 55 off-ramp also saw a brief closure because of mounting traffic. The trailer was brought upright with the help of large air bags that were placed beneath the trailer and inflated.
