Mustangs hold off Nuggets By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Jun 01, 2021 09:56 PM A A Jace Miller walked and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Zanni in the eighth inning to give the Medford Mustangs the insurance run they needed in a 7-6 American Legion AAA baseball win over the Grants Pass Nuggets Tuesday at U.S. Cellular Community Park. Miller’s run put Medford (4-1) ahead 7-5. Grants Pass scored a run in the ninth when Andrew Eide singled in Payton Anhorn, who reached on a fielder’s choice. Grants Pass led 5-1 through four innings. The Mustangs got a solo home run from Gavin Schmidt in a three-run fifth inning, when Tanner Douglas followed with a two-run single. Medford went in front, 6-5, when Miller and Eli Westrick opened the inning with a single and double, respectively, and each came around to score. Douglas was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Schmidt drove in two. Cody Borraggine was 2-for-4 with two runs. Eide and Ashton Durler each had three hits for the Nuggets.
