LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Letters to the Editor, Aug. 11 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 11, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Aug. 11, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News A magnificent performance How to sum up what was the most thrilling musical experience either of us can recall? Electrifying, breathtaking, magnificent! Virtually the entire audience leapt to its feet with cheers, applause, whistles, shouts as the absolutely stunning performance of Carmina Burana came to a conclusion. The approximately 260 instrumentalists, singers, soloists and conductor were called back for four rousing curtain calls. The orchestra was superb, the choirs incredible. The solo artists were exemplary, and their dramatic enhancements not only were a delightful addition to the over-all performance but, as one would expect, helped convey the story. Thank you, thank you, thank you to one and all. Especially to Teddy Abrams for the extraordinary talent and uncanny vision he brings to Britt! Cynthia and Burke Raymond Talent Enforce the law When is the state of Oregon and the U.S. Justice Department going to start enforcing the federal laws that are in effect right now? The cultivation and use of Marijuana are in violation of federal law. Likewise, the selling of body parts from aborted fetuses is also against federal law. Sanctuary cities continue to defy federal laws in regard to illegal aliens, many of which are criminals of one type or another. Since when can they pick and choose what federal laws they want to enforce? I guess our esteemed president and politicians in Salem think global warming and GMO crops are more of a concern. I think they need to get their priorities in order. Richard Cody Applegate Migration, not emissions United Nations reports warn of human population growth as it relates to greenhouse gas emissions. Recently the Center for Biological Diversity published a study, done in Portland, where measures were established to reduce these gases. Officials discovered that between 2000 and 2005 they reduced per-capita emissions by 5 percent. During that same period, however, the city’s population increased by 8 percent, resulting in a net increase in emissions of 3 percent. If we factor in people migrating from third-world countries to become super consumers elsewhere, per-capita emissions and human numbers increase at the same time. Folks who use climate change as a political issue don’t talk about human migration, but if they were really concerned they’d go after illegal immigration and put fossil fuel consumption on the back burner. Recently Pope Francis inserted himself into the climate change debate — announcing his concerns about gas emissions, so the pope must think climate change is man-caused. If he does, he’s in a unique position to act on it. He could persuade folks in underdeveloped areas to stay where they are and fix what’s wrong in their own countries. At the same time, he could encourage his followers to have fewer children. Will he? Robert Bennett Grants Pass Photo was  appalling  What an appalling photo (July 28) of the three women, their guns, and piles of dead sandhill cranes. Why? Will these majestic birds be eaten? Or left in a pile to rot? See the birds roaming around in front of them? Oh, what "sport!" Kind of reminiscent of the old "hunters" killing buffaloes from trains and leaving them to rot on the prairies. Liz Koester Medford Stop the madness What evil we see today in our country. We have lost the truth that every created being is imago dei: in the image of God. So we have an intrinsic worth of reflected splendor. The decimation of human life is at our doorstep. Our relativism has led to self-destruction. The brutality of abortion is the stench of rot as body parts are sold for profits as former slaves were. John Newton knew what he was writing about in his song "Amazing Grace." I am a wretch he saved. Join me in stopping this madness. Diana M. Nelson Phoenix Attack unpersuasive In response to Hartley Anderson's letter on Aug. 2, I agree with the fact that the more impact a vehicle has on our roads the more it should pay to maintain them. However I take exception to his statement that the primary motivation for driving large vehicles is due to ego. Spoken like a true person of the left to personally attack those whose lifestyle or needs don't meet one's narrow-mindedness. This is one of many reasons I discount heavily opinions of the left.
