Oregon, OSU fall short of World Series BATON ROUGE, La. -- The University of Oregon softball team was eliminated from NCAA Regional play Sunday with a 3-1 eight-inning loss to Southern Mississippi at Tiger Park. The 19th-ranked Ducks, facing their third consecutive elimination game, ended the season with a 36-29 record, with the final two defeats coming at the hands of the Golden Eagles. Former North Medford standout Missy Coe started an Oregon rally in the bottom of the sixth. Coe, who finished 1-for-2 with two walks, led off with a walk and was lifted for pinch runner Amber Hutchison. Jill Robinson followed with a bunt-single, moving Hutchison to second and then home after another bunt single by Lindsey Welch. Southern Mississippi ended the drama in the eighth when Channika Gant smacked a bases-loaded RBI single.   Today's Edition : News | Sports | Business | Weather | Tempo | Classifieds Mail Tribune Copyright The Mail Tribune 2000, Medford, Oregon USA
