Since You Asked: New banners on Exit 14 bridge are in limbo Monday Jul 24, 2017 at 12:01 AM So what do you know, if anything, about the missing OSF flags on the no-longer-quite-so-new bridge over I-5 at Exit 14? I thought there were plans to have the flags there, and the flag holders appear to be in place. But no flags. Any thoughts? — David N., Ashland During the Exit 14 bridge improvement process, the Oregon Department of Transportation sought input from a community advisory committee regarding various aesthetic features on the bridge. Decorative, noncommercial banners were one of the suggestions made at that time. “The idea was that maybe the city (of Ashland), working with the Chamber of Commerce and the Public Arts Commission, could design and hang colorful banners as an entrance feature at both Exit 14 and along North Main Street,” explained Ann Seltzer, a city management analyst. “The concept was not specific to Oregon Shakespeare Festival,” she added. Unfortunately, in 2012, at the time the bridge was completed, there was no funding to actualize the concept, and the bridge has been bannerless ever since.
