The fire was reported at 7:14 a.m. in the 800 block of Neil Creek Road, in a rural neighborhood west of Emigrant Lake. Ashland Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Dana Sallee said neighbors called it in after seeing flames at a small house just off the road in a wooded area. When Jackson County Fire District 5 crews arrived, about 25 percent of the house was covered with flames. The sole occupant had made it out unharmed. Crews had the flames under control in about five minutes, Sallee said. The cause remains under investigation. The attack force included three engines and a water tender from Fire District 5 and Ashland.
