LAW ENFORCEMENT UPDATED: Standoff ends with two arrests in Wilson Elementary neighborhood Two men arrested, nearby school goes on lockdown Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jan. 12, 2016 at 3:10 PM Updated Jan 12, 2016 at 10:22 PM Posted Jan. 12, 2016 at 3:10 PM Updated Jan 12, 2016 at 10:22 PM » Social News Two robbery suspects were taken into police custody after a 2½-hour standoff Tuesday afternoon in east Medford. Medford police got a report of an illegal marijuana deal that turned into an armed robbery in the 1500 block of Grand Avenue, and officers surrounded the robbery suspects' home there. Nearby Wilson Elementary School went on lockdown around 2:15 p.m. while officers worked in the area. Grand Avenue was closed between Covina and Corona avenues. At about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, a search warrant was issued, and a SWAT team went in and arrested two suspects. Police said a handgun and knife were used during the robbery. The suspects were identified late Tuesday as Jesse Howe, 18, and Nicholas Edwards, 19, according to the Medford Police Department's Facebook page. Howe and Edwards were both lodged on two counts of first-degree robbery, first-degree theft and possession of marijuana. Wilson students with rides were allowed to leave, but students who walked to school or took the bus remained at the school until they could be picked up by a parent or guardian, school officials said. North Medford High School student Carlos Gonzalez, who lives near the house that officers had surrounded, said he couldn't get to his own home because of the ongoing police presence. "I was just on my way home and I see all these cop cars," Gonzalez said. .
