http://www.omniture.com --> Email Story to a Friend June 12, 2006 On their own turf Volunteers are getting down and dirty in a huge recycling effort. Crater High School is installing a new playing field of artificial turf, and Hanby Middle School in Gold Hill is thrilled to be getting Crater's old turf, says Hanby Principal Sheila Henson. For the past few weeks, students, parents, teachers and others have been busily ripping out the middle school's old cracked and lumpy asphalt playground, says Henson. Then they began prepping the ground with topsoil that was covered with truckloads of the turf this past weekend. "This is a really great recycling effort," says Henson. "Hanby will have a new asphalt-free play area." Gold Hill Public Works Director Royal Gasso says his department donated trucks and drivers to help haul off the ripped-out asphalt. "There is a shortage of playgrounds in Gold Hill and we were happy to donate our trucks to help the middle school and the community in this effort," says Gasso.
