November 10. 2014 12:01AM Letters to the Editor, Nov. 10 We're going to need it Hallelujah! Oregonians passed the marijuana law. We're going to need all we can get with the Republicans in the majority. Keith Van Horn, Medford Subconscious influence Days ago, Leonard Pitts Jr. wrote this: “America’s most trusted news source not so trustworthy.” The column’s gist was: A reputable number-crunching organization had found that though Fox News (and particularly Rush Limbaugh) is regarded by most as untrustworthy, it’s easily the most popular news source. CNN, however, is just the opposite: the most watched during 9/11 when accuracy was paramount, their ratings now are so poor that they’re shedding employees. It also relates to a personal experience: I consider myself a Christian. So when a friend began to gossip, I knew I should stop them. But I wimped out ― not wanting to offend them, I told myself I would just let it go in one ear and out the other. But a few days later I was working with the subject of the gossip and suddenly realized I was treating her as though the gossip was fact. It hadn’t gone in one ear and out the other at all! God’s word: “The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man’s inmost parts.” (Proverbs 18:8, NIV) This, then, makes me wonder just how much influence Fox News had on the election. Hartley Anderson, Medford Don't underestimate voters Apparently the Mail Tribune thinks the voters of Jackson County are morons. Everyone who voted for Colleen Roberts for county commissioner did so because they were "confused and unaware of her views?" Maybe they voted for her because she stands up for the Constitution, smaller government and personal freedom. Mrs. Roberts has been vilified in the media daily (chiefly in the Mail Tribune and the Medford Sneak Preview) over the last few weeks. She was called a right-wing extremist because she didn't agree with the outgoing county commissioners' good ol' boy network. Having attended the debate between Colleen and Kevin Talbert, it was obvious to everyone in attendance which candidate was more qualified. Kevin Talbert seemed arrogant and was unfamiliar with most of the topics. One got the feeling that he hadn't prepped for the debate knowing that there was serious money backing him and a liberal media to promote his candidacy. Colleen Roberts persevered and triumphed in spite of all these obstacles, not because voters were confused about her views, but because she speaks for thousands of local citizens and she was the best candidate for the job. Do not underestimate the voters of Jackson County! Chris Sinclair, Medford http://www.mailtribune.com/article/20141110/OPINION/141119984 © 2015 Copyright © 1995-2011 Crain Communications Inc.
