Staver, Victor boot St. Mary�s to victory St. Mary�s only needed a minute and a half of offense to capture a 2-0 conference victory over visiting North Valley Thursday night in District 6 boys soccer. In the third minute of the first half senior Brian Staver dribbled the ball on the right side of the box and fired a left-footed shot to the right corner of the net. Staver was tripped on the play and looked as though he may fall down. But he was able to maintain his balance and drill the shot past the surprised North Valley goalkeeper. A mere minute and a half later North Valley bounced the ball out of bounds in Crusader territory. Matt Burt found a wide-open Kawika Victor in front of the net for an easy goal. St. Mary�s (5-2, 1-1 District 6) would not need another goal as the Crusaders kept North Valley from gaining any momentum. "We controlled most of the game," said St. Mary�s coach Eric Wolff. "We maintained possession for a long time." North Valley received a costly red card early in the second half, and was forced to play shorthanded the rest of the way. "It (red card) hurt them trying to get back into the game," Wolff said. PHOENIX 7, MAZAMA 1 � At Klamath Falls, John Hendricks had notched four goals in each of the last two games for the Pirates, and he upped the ante Thursday with five goals and an assist as Phoenix rolled past the Vikings. Lane Munroe and goalie Tony Machado also added goals as the Pirates outshot Mazama 23-3. Munroe started the scoring 24 minutes into the contest when he took a Hendricks pass off a corner kick and headed the ball into the net from six yards out. Hendricks added three more goals to the Phoenix cause before the half, all coming within a seven-minute span. David Peterson, also a junior, assisted on three goals for the Pirates (6-1, 2-0 District 6). ROGUE RIVER 4, BONANZA 3 � At Rogue River, Bonanza sustained its first District 6 loss of the season. The Chieftains improved to 1-1 in conference play while the Antlers fell to 3-1. HENLEY 6, ILLINOIS VALLEY 0 � At Cave Junction, the visiting Hornets coasted to a win in their first District 6 game.
