Cathy Silver bought the winning ticket at Albertsons in Ashland on Oct. 18 and claimed her prize with her family at the Oregon Lottery office in Salem on  Dec. 5, state lottery officials announced today. Silver said she doesn't play Megabucks on a regular basis, but when she does, she checks her numbers after each drawing. Waking at 5 a.m. the Sunday following the drawing, Silver sat down with the Sunday newspaper and a cup of coffee to check the numbers, lottery officials said.  When she saw she had matched the first three numbers on one of the 10 sets of numbers on her $10, quick-pick Megabucks ticket that also included the Kicker option, she was initially excited about the prospect of a free ticket, a lottery news release recounted. When she realized she had matched all six numbers, she woke up her husband, Bud, to have him confirm the win. Silver called her son, who reminded her to sign the winning ticket. After notifying family members, who quickly gathered at Silver's Ashland home, she next called her accountant, the news release said. Silver waited until she had a financial plan in place before claiming her prize in Salem.  Oregon Lottery officials said players should always sign their tickets, consult with a trusted adviser if they win a jackpot and make an appointment at the Lottery office to claim prizes of $50,000 or more. Silver is the Oregon Lottery's 244th Megabucks millionaire.
